Counterfeiters go after anything of value: money, casino chips, the Mona Lisa, and even Perma-Zyme. Yes, we’re serious. Counterfeiters have gotten into the soil stabilization game!

In the late 2010s, we discovered unscrupulous agents slapping our label on an inferior knockoff product. Since then, we’ve updated our packaging to prevent fraudulent imitations. And we’re teaching our customers six ways to recognize the real, undiluted Perma-Zyme:

  • Packaging
  • Batch number
  • Look, feel, and smell
  • Formula
  • Usage rate
  • Source

Perma-Zyme Comes With Holographic Packaging

As money forgers get better at imitating dollar bills, the Fed devises new high-tech ways to foil them. Everything from the fiber paper to the security thread to the color-shifting ink makes it more difficult for counterfeiters to crank out convincing fakes.

We did the same with Perma-Zyme. In 2019, we updated our packaging to include a holographic foil label. So, the next time you buy Perma-Zyme, look for this. It’s your assurance that you’re getting the real deal, not a scam.

Every Batch of Perma-Zyme Has a Batch Number

Every time we brew a batch of Perma-Zyme, we give it a batch number so we can track each and every drop. If there’s ever an issue or a question, we look up the batch number to resolve it.

You’ll see your Perma-Zyme’s batch number printed on the jug, pail, or tote you purchased. You can always call us and confirm that your batch number is indeed a recent, real batch of Perma-Zyme—even if you purchased from a distributor or our online store.

Perma-Zyme Has a Distinctive Look, Feel, and Smell

Perma-Zyme is a medium-to-dark brown liquid that smells a bit like hops and molasses. It’s viscous enough to pour easily, but not so thin as to be watery.

You might have received a knock-off product—or at least a diluted one—if it is:

  • Thin and runny
  • Light brown or gold in color
  • Odorless

Perma-Zyme also has a high foam tendency, but a diluted product won’t foam up as much. One way to check your product’s authenticity is to fill a small container about halfway and shake vigorously. Real Perma-Zyme should foam. If it barely foams (or doesn’t foam at all), it could be expired or diluted.

Perma-Zyme’s Formula Is a Trade Secret

Our Perma-Zyme formula has over 50 years of science, tradition, test results, and satisfied customers behind it. It’s also a proprietary trade secret—much like Coca-Cola’s soda formula or KFC’s spices.

While we’ve divulged a few of our ingredients (such as the enzymes protease, lipase, and chitinase) and shared a bit of our green manufacturing process, only a handful of people know the full ingredient list and process. In fact, it’s so top-secret that not even all of our employees know what’s in it!

So, if someone claims to have a complete ingredient list for Perma-Zyme, run away.

Perma-Zyme Has a Specific Usage Rate

Pure Perma-Zyme works at a rate of one gallon per 160 cubic yards of soil. For perspective, three five-gallon pails of Perma-Zyme will treat one mile of a two-lane road to a depth of six inches.

So, if someone tells you that you’ll need six pails of Perma-Zyme to treat one mile of municipal road, then you have good reason to suspect that you’re dealing with an impostor!

You Can Only Purchase Perma-Zyme from Substrata or an Authorized Distributor

We also have authorized distributors around the world. These are reputable businesses whom we’ve vetted and who sell Perma-Zyme for us. To confirm that the business you’re working with is an authorized distributor, give us a quick call.

We’re always happy to help assure our customers that they have the real Perma-Zyme, as well as to answer your questions about it. After all, there’s only one. Accept no substitutes!
