Large Cracking

Large cracks may appear in unpaved Perma-Zyme treated surfaces. Find out why and how to fix them.

Why Is Large Cracking Appearing?

Extremely plastic soils are usually highly expansive and may be more prone to large cracking due to excessive soil moisture during application, dry climate, and/or extreme high temperatures.

How to Fix Large Cracking

The scale of repair depends on whether the cracks are widespread or isolated. To fix large cracking:

1. Wet the soil lightly with water.

2. Using a grader, loosen and rework the soil to remove the cracking.

3. Spray a mixture of Perma-Zyme and water (1:1,000) onto the soil’s surface.

4. Mix the Perma-Zyme into the soil using the grader.

5. Shape the roadway using the grader.

6. Compact the soil with a smooth wheel roller with the vibratory function turned on.

7. Finish compacting the soil with the smooth wheel roller with the vibratory function turned off.

8. Let the soil thoroughly dry prior to allowing traffic on the area. If possible, keep the road closed for at least 24 hours, then allow only light traffic traveling at low speeds for the next 48 hours.
